This intermediate-mid to intermediate-high Spanish activity encourages students to report on current events. The activity starts by reviewing key vocabulary words by playing a game in which students describe a word to see if their classmates can guess what they are describing. A set of cards with full-color photos are included to illustrate each current event-related vocabulary word. Then, students are given a pre-printed current event card and are asked to summarize the event for their peers. There are 4 events included but this could easily be completed by having students each explore the internet to find authentic websites of current events in order to report on the most recent events.

In this intermediate low to intermediate-high ASL activity, students will learn about classifiers and their role in telling stories. This unit starts with a video introducing students to life in Pompeii. (This video is about 50 minutes long, it may be useful to show select scenes rather than the entire video). Students are then asked to read and translate 2 eyewitness accounts in which Pliny describes what happened the day of the eruption. Public domain versions of these letters are linked within the activity. Afterward, students are asked to examine the ruins using a video tour of the Forum Baths. To end the lesson, a variety of virtual field trip links are provided allowing student groups to each explore a different aspect of life in Pompeii.

This google slide presentation is prepared for intermediate low to intermediate mid-French students who are learning to use the past tense and specifically the phrases I have or I did. These comprehensible phrases are repeated over and over in various slides along with a photo to illustrate the meaning of each sentence. In the end, the photos are repeated without the written sentences to allow students an opportunity to recall the conjugations and/or vocabulary. Finally, students are asked to construct the grammar concept on the last 2 slides.

This unique set of activities is geared toward intermediate mid to intermediate high Spanish students working toward the AP Spanish Language and Culture Exam. This novice high to intermediate mid-French activity is perfect for second or third-year students returning to school after the summer. An included powerpoint clearly identifies the can-do statements and links to an English language video that identifies the key shopping locations in Beijing. After an introduction to the cultural aspects of shopping, students simulate a shopping experience in the classroom. This novice mid to novice high French activity guides students as they plan a weekend trip in France. Students use an authentic resource online to plan their trip during this 2-day activity. The printable worksheet provides a place for students to record the information they gather from the French language travel website. On day one, students find 2 locations of interest and gather information such as the region and activities. On day two, students work in groups of three to interview each other about their trips using provided French questions. They will then select one trip to present as a group. This novice low French activity provides a fun way to practice pronunciation of French sounds. As a warm up, teachers use a series of pre-printed cards as they model the pronunciation of each word and sound. Students are to repeat the words. This unit is based on the novel In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez. While the activities and discussion questions are in English, the novel itself and the accompanying activities connect language learners to other classroom subjects as they read about the fight for social justice through the eyes of sisters who dared to confront Trujillo and his dictatorship in the Dominican Republic. This story addresses global challenges, family and community, and personal and public identities. Novice through intermediate low language learners can use this as a cultural unit alongside their language instruction. Intermediate mid to high students can reflect upon this story in the target language as they discuss and write about the topics that are addressed, comparing them to battles for justice fought by those in their own country.
