Five or six fitness activities are arranged in the center (the pit) of a large circle outlined with marking spots (the race track). If desired, tumbling mats can be placed in the center of the race track to delineate the pit stop area. Students work with a partner and alternate running (or doing other locomotor movements) or rope jumping around the race track and going to the pit to perform a strength or flexibility exercise. A different exercise should be performed each time so students assure variety in their workout.

This lesson will introduce students to an important scientific principle that affects movement. Class discussion followed by teacher designed learning stations will allow students the opportunity to identify and use Newton’s Laws of Motion in physical activities.  Through question/answer sessions, the teacher will help students make purposeful connections between science and human movement.  After each station, students will complete a worksheet by answering basic recall questions in addition to higher-order thinking questions.  The teacher will also check for understanding by asking questions during station participation and posing questions at the conclusion of the lesson.

To practice the soccer skills of passing and trapping while using the math skill of addition. This learning activity can be used as a peer assessment. Students can be assigned a partner and each partner will evaluate their partner for proper form before having a pass count toward their total. The partner who selects the card performs the pass against the wall, and the partner uses a skill checklist to determine whether or not it is acceptable toward the card total.
