The Northern Frontier ducks are starting their migration to their winter home, Restoria, and the CyberSquad is going along for the ride! Just like real ducks, cyberducks migrate from one region to another to find a warm place to live with plenty of good food and water. The flock needs to avoid obstacles and manage their energy while migrating to Restoria. The player’s mission is to work with the ducks to help them get to Restoria safely and find the best ponds to stop at along the way.

Duck Dash is a “born-accessible” interactive game designed for kids ages 6-8, featuring beloved characters from the PBS KIDS math and environmental adventure series, Cyberchase. Players explore the math concepts of how to manage, organize, display, and evaluate data using graphs, and the science concepts of migration and ecology.

The Story Map interactive includes a set of graphic organizers designed to assist teachers and students in prewriting and post-reading activities. The organizers are intended to focus on the key elements of character, setting, conflict, and resolution development. Students can develop multiple characters, for example, in preparation for writing their own fiction, or they may reflect on and further develop characters from stories they have read. After completing individual sections or the entire organizer, students have the ability to print out their final versions for feedback and assessment. The versatility of this tool allows it to be used in multiple contexts.

This printable resource is perfect for writing out classroom schedules in Chinese. The printout has space for students to write out 7 classes that they attend at school. There is enough room for added descriptions such as teacher's name, room number, or adjectives describing the class. This activity is particularly useful for novice low language learners as they learn school-related vocabulary and descriptions. Teachers can choose to print a copy for each student and have each student write out their current schedule. Another option is to have students work in pairs and discuss their classes. Each student can write down the schedule of their partner as they listen to the information provided in the target language.

While the distinction may appear nuanced, there are clear differences behind the meanings and purposes of tattling vs telling. Tattling is generally associated with reputation, such as when students attempt to get one another in trouble for minor incidents or try to gain favor by making themselves appear heroic while telling, on the other hand, is an effort to alert an adult to more serious incidents or safety concerns.

Helping students recognize the difference between tattling and telling is a complicated dance that requires direct instruction, practice, and ongoing support in the classroom. While it’s fairly simple for students to understand the necessity for rules and the expectations that they convey, it can be quite another task for children to determine when rule breaking is something that must be reported.

This novice low to novice high grammar game helps Spanish learners 'see' how the target language is formed so that they can make connections between the Spanish language and their own. This game will work for any tense but the instructions are specifically geared toward reflexive present tense conjugations. Students work in groups to create sentences. A die is rolled to determine the subject of each sentence. Then, students match the verb stem to the correct verb ending based on the subject determined by the die. Finally, students use this newly constructed verb to write a sentence using the verb and current vocabulary.

Children move an object in front of a flashlight and observe how its shadow changes in this interactive game from PEEP and the Big Wide World. As children slide the object closer to and farther away from the light until its shadow matches the size of the object’s outline on the wall, they discover that when an object is moved closer to the light source, it blocks more light and its shadow becomes larger. Children also explore how changing the position of the light changes the direction in which the shadow of the object falls.

In this learning experience designed for littles (grades Pre-K through 2nd), Christine Pinto, Kindergarten teacher and co-author of Google Apps for Littles,  uses Google Sheets templates to help her students learn basic addition and give them early exposure to equations. Students can "make five", "make ten", "make twenty", following the colors in the Google Sheets cells.

The kids make their models by using single digit numbers according to the color key to color the cells. First, they fill in the blank cells with a color by typing the number that corresponds to the color. For example, they could fill three boxes with green, two with orange. Then they add their equation to the yellow box to show how it makes 5 (3 (green) plus 2 (orange) equals five). Then they check their answer in the blue box following the example.

Learning Outcomes :

  • Students will be able to create equations that equal 5, 10, or 20.

  • Students will be able to decompose a number and understand the purpose of the equal sign.

  • Students will gain a foundational understanding for multiplication.

  • Students will be able to write mathematical expressions.
