    Learning Objectives

    Learning Objectives

Through the use of Gimkit (a digital game board), students can demonstrate knowledge of key vocabulary definitions, word meanings, active listening, and important details from the paired readings they have completed.

    Activity Details

The students will be able to play a digital game via Gimkit to demonstrate learned vocabulary and details from the paired readings: The Lightning Thief and Welcome to the Underworld

    Student Steps to play Gimkit:

    1. Students will need to go to https://www.gimkit.com/join

    2. The students will need to enter the specific game code that the teacher creates (see teacher steps). Be sure and tell students to use their real names or the initials of their names.

    Teacher Steps to play Gimkit:

    1. Go to the link here for the game that is already created.

    2. On the left side of the screen select "Play Live," select the "classic game mode," choose how long to play the game (I usually play for 7 minutes), hit "continue" and give the students the game code. Let the students play and the top 3 winners will be displayed when the game is over.

    Assessment Strategies

    Assessment Strategies

The teacher can review the student report to evaluate student accuracy in discovering word meanings in the game. The faster the student answers the better scores students can receive in the game. Students can improve their speed by having the teacher say the terms out loud as the students actively listen for word meanings throughout the game.

    Acceleration

Advanced Options:  Students can make their own Gimkit game and create their own questions to stump each other.

    Intervention

Tier 2 Interventions: Students can be partnered in teams of two. Students could have access to their notebooks from the previous activities to use their definitions during the game.
