Overview

In this activity, students will follow a Google Slide Presentation while writing notes or by taking digital notes about The Writing Process and the stages within the process. The students will also learn what each stage is designed to accomplish, what questions to ask to determine if they have met the goals of each stage and the focus of each stage.

Learning Objectives

The students will define and determine when to use the stages of The Writing Process and the importance of each step. Upon completion, students will begin to integrate the steps and be prepared to explain the process when they create their next writing piece. 

Activity Details

The students will complete notes on The Writing Process and be able to explain the different stages before writing.

Teacher Steps:

1) Teachers, first log into Teachers Pay Teachers and download the Google Presentation and the notes. Follow the link here to get the resource. 

2) This is a free presentation from TeachersPayTeachers and the teacher will need to decide whether the students will complete a paper worksheet or use the digital copy. I prefer the paper copy so students can refer to it for the remainder of the school year.

3) Print out the answer key for teacher reference or for students who might need guided notes.

4) The teacher will Present the Google Slide Presentation during class, encourage student participation, and check for comprehension.

5) The teacher can choose to grade the notes for completion or encourage the students to complete the assignment before they can move on to the next activity.

Assessment Strategies

Students will actively participate in the class by taking notes during the presentation on the student worksheets. These notes will be used throughout the year when writing essays and revising them based on the practices discussed in the presentation.
The teacher will evaluate the completion of the student's notes and notate the students' participation.

Acceleration

For advanced students who may finish quickly, make copies of various written works in the different stages of writing and have the students identify which stage(s) of the work has been completed.

Intervention

Provide pre-filled notes to students who may need extra help.
