Polygon Angle Relationship Quiz

Learning Resource Type

Learning Activity

Subject Area

Mathematics

Grade(s)

9, 10, 11, 12

Overview

In this activity, students will complete an online quiz using Go Formative. Students will answer varying types of assessment questions in order to demonstrate mastery of angle relationships found in regular and irregular polygons.

This activity was created as a result of the ALEX Resource Development Summit.

Mathematics (2019) Grade(s): 09-12 - Geometry with Data Analysis

MA19.GDA.36

Use geometric shapes, their measures, and their properties to model objects and use those models to solve problems.

UP:MA19.GDA.36

Vocabulary

  • Model

Knowledge

Students know:
  • Techniques to find measures of geometric shapes.
  • Properties of geometric shapes.

Skills

Students are able to:
  • Model a real-world object through the use of a geometric shape.
  • Justify the model by connecting its measures and properties to the object.

Understanding

Students understand that:
  • Geometric shapes may be used to model real-world objects.
  • Attributes of geometric figures help us identify the figures and find their measures. therefore, matching these figures to real-world objects allows the application of geometric techniques to real-world problems.

Learning Objectives

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the angle relationships found in regular and irregular polygons.

Activity Details

  • The teacher will provide the Polygon Angle Relationship Quiz Go Formative link to students using an online learning platform such as Google Classroom, Canvas, etc.
  • After clicking the link provided by the teacher, students will complete the online quiz by answering four questions in order to demonstrate mastery of angle relationships found in regular and irregular polygons.
  • Students will then submit their responses and receive immediate feedback.

Assessment Strategies

Students will be assessed using the Go Formative website.

Intervention

For struggling learners, a small group discussion can be held on how the interior angle sum formula can be used to determine the measure of one interior angle of a regular polygon.

Background / Preparation

The activity will need to be shared with students on an online learning platform such as Google Classroom, Canvas, etc

The Go Formative application allows teachers to upload any PDF/document/Google Doc and make it interactive.

  • Teachers can also choose from a library of pre-made formative assessments.
  • Teachers receive feedback from students' responses and are able to track student growth.
