Overview

In this learning activity, the students will watch a video about the number pairs that make up the number 5. The students will sing along with the video and perform the hand movements making number pairs for the number 5.

    - record their solutions using pictures or equations. 

    Activity Details

    1. Play the video the first time just for the students to watch.
    2. Play the video the second time and ask the students to stand and sing along with the video while performing the hand movements as Jack Hartmann does in the video.
    3. The teacher will walk around the room observing the students for correct hand movements.

    The teacher will walk around the classroom the second time the video is played to observe the students using hand movements while making the number pairs for 5.

    Variation Tips

    Once your students have mastered number pairs to 5, you may show the Jack Hartmann video on number pairs to make 6.

    Struggling students can be partnered with another student.
