This activity engages students in expressing their opinion of a Coca-Cola Commercial that aired in Mexico in 2015. Using past Coca-Cola commercials from various decades and an opinion article from El País, students will reflect on prior knowledge of indigenous groups of Latin America to express their opinion on the 2015 commercial. This culminating activity incorporates presentational writing as students express and support their opinion in the target language.

This activity is for intermediate to advanced proficiency levels and should be taught completely in the target language.

This lesson will connect students with actual artists from Nicaragua while introducing the topic of fair-trade, non-profit organizations as well as opening up the classroom for a discussion on the culture of Central America. It is best to partner this lesson with your school’s Pulsera Project sale, but all resources are available whether or not the sale occurs at your school. How do I know if a substance is an acid or base?  In this activity, the students will use a digital simulation model to explore and gather evidence on how acids and bases dissociate in solution. The students will also gather data on how pH and conductivity change with the strength of an acid or base. Finally, they will develop their own working definition of acid, base, indicator, and pH scale by gathering data during the simulation. This activity is an introductory activity to acids and bases and no prior knowledge is needed to complete the simulation.

Note: The PhET simulation is a free resource that is copyrighted by the University of Colorado. The handout and lesson format are teacher-created.

During this activity, the students will collaborate in groups of 4 to complete a List-Group-Label as a before strategy for a lesson on radioactivity to activate and assess students' prior knowledge.  The students will collaborate on a shared Google document to create a brainstorm of all the words and concepts they know that are associated with the word, radioactive. Then, they will group the words into categories and ultimately label each group of terms. This activity will give the teacher insight into student's thoughts and possible misconceptions about radiation before a lesson on radioactivity.
