A quick database search may yield thousands of results. Using advanced search tools can help students narrow down these results and find relevant sources. In this activity, students will explore the Advanced Search tools and research strategies for one database and answer questions on helpful features.

In this learning activity, students will learn to find the standard deviation and be able to find the similarities and differences in 4 data sets. These sets have the same mean but different ranges and standard deviations. Students will discover that the standard deviation increases when points are further away from the mean, even those in the middle. This learning activity is intended to be a During Activity for a standard deviation lesson.

The Blank Unit Circle PDF is a tool that can be used to study the Unit Circle and the different parts that make up the Unit Circle such as reference angles, radian measure, trigonometric ratios, and angle measurements. After a lesson on the Unit Circle, students will be asked to fill out the Blank Unit Circle PDF to be turned in as an Exit Ticket.

This activity engages students in expressing their opinion of a Coca-Cola Commercial that aired in Mexico in 2015. Using past Coca-Cola commercials from various decades and an opinion article from El País, students will reflect on prior knowledge of indigenous groups of Latin America to express their opinion on the 2015 commercial. This culminating activity incorporates presentational writing as students express and support their opinion in the target language.

This lesson will connect students with actual artists from Nicaragua while introducing the topic of fair-trade, non-profit organizations as well as opening up the classroom for a discussion on the culture of Central America. Students explore what makes a character interesting through the examination of physical objects. What do objects say about us? What assumptions do we make about people based on what they carry with them?  Students will explore the items in a bag you have created that has been left in your classroom. The students will infer what type of person the bag belongs to based on the objects found inside. The class will work together to create a personal history for this character.

Students will practice using pantomime skills by creating inanimate objects. Students will work in small groups and in pairs to create various objects. The object ideas will be provided by the teacher. Students will have to quickly transition from one object to the next without overthinking. After students have defined and identified responsible and ethical research practices as well as strategies for writing clear, coherent products suitable for audience and purpose, they will utilize these practices and strategies to write their own paragraph.  In this activity, students will complete the prewriting steps in this process. Using a guide, they will consider the topic, audience, purpose, and research sources as they prepare to write their paragraph.

Students will reflect on their previous analysis of their chosen graphic text on the Graphic Texts in Action form and make a decision based on the information in the graphic text. They will verbally summarize the content of the graphic text to a small group in class. Other group members will use the Backward Note-Taking Strategy to make a decision based on the graphic text and summary of each group member. The group members will discuss each team member’s decision and compare and/or contrast it to their own until every group member has had a chance to share, summarize, predict, and compare or contrast decisions.  

Students will complete a guided research activity about electronic cigarettes and vaping and their effects on the respiratory system. Students will read and take notes on two articles retrieved from the Alabama Virtual Library. After taking notes, students will organize the information according to Statistics, Health Effects, Pros and Cons (related to conventional cigarette smokers), and Other Information.

Business industry experts agree that identifying a brand purpose and clearly communicating it with consumers is a critical aspect of brand positioning strategy. In this activity, students will read the article, "Strategic Marketing: Brands Consider the Power of Purpose" from the Wharton Global Youth Program and complete a graphic organizer to identify key concepts.

This learning activity Let's Experiment With Graphs of Functions Using Technology! will be used during a lesson on identifying the effect on the graph of replacing f(x) by f(x) + k, k f(x), f(kx), and f(x + k) for specific values of k using technology, finding the value of k given the graphs, and recognizing even and odd functions from their graphs and algebraic expressions for them.

Students will research jobs/professions using American Sign Language. They will identify and list various types of jobs/professions and the cities and states where these jobs are most concentrated. Students will identify a job in which they have a personal interest.

In this activity, students will learn strategies for effectively using the Google search engine for answering research questions. They will conduct a Google search in a small group using these search strategies and determine which strategies yield the most useful results.

In the learning activity, students will review the Fundamental Counting Principle. After the students have reviewed the Fundamental Counting Principle, the students will use an exit ticket to assess their understanding of the topic. This activity is to be used as an after-activity.

Coloring With the Unit Circle is a Google Doc tool that allows the student to study the Unit Circle and the different parts that make up the Unit Circle such as reference angles, radian measure, trigonometric ratios, and angle measurements. The student will find and color the reference angles on the unit circle.

Students will interact with the iCell material to research and identify the structures of the plant and animal cells, their functions and the differences between the two cells. Students will create a 'cell-gram' post, depicting either the function of a specific structure or of how a differentiated/specific cell type will have varying needs for cellular components.

How do I know if a substance is an acid or base?  In this activity, the students will use a digital simulation model to explore and gather evidence on how acids and bases dissociate in solution. The students will also gather data on how pH and conductivity change with the strength of an acid or base. Finally, they will develop their own working definition of acid, base, indicator, and pH scale by gathering data during the simulation. This activity is an introductory activity to acids and bases and no prior knowledge is needed to complete the simulation.

During this activity, the students will collaborate in groups of 4 to complete a List-Group-Label as a before strategy for a lesson on radioactivity to activate and assess students' prior knowledge.  The students will collaborate on a shared Google document to create a brainstorm of all the words and concepts they know that are associated with the word, radioactive. Then, they will group the words into categories and ultimately label each group of terms. This activity will give the teacher insight into student's thoughts and possible misconceptions about radiation before a lesson on radioactivity.

This activity contributes to students’ understanding of the standard and prepares them to write using language that is clear, coherent, and suitable for a specific audience and purpose.

This learning activity is an assessment activity that uses an exit ticket to ask students to write both a recursive and explicit formula for a simple application problem.
