Overview

The 10 Less and 10 More document can be used as an assessment, exit pass, or practice sheet for students working on adding/subtracting ten and 100 from any given number between 100 and 900.

Learning Objectives

Students will be able to mentally add and subtract 10 or 100 to a given number between 100 and 900.

Activity Details

The teacher will distribute a copy of 10 Less and 10 More to each student. On the front side, the students will look at the number in the middle of the two blanks. The students will subtract 10 and enter the answer in the blank one. The students will add 10 and enter the answer in blank two. On the back side, the process is the same but they are subtracting and adding 100.

Assessment Strategies

  • The teacher will observe students' responses to determine students' understanding of the concept and skill. 
  • The teacher can use the following guidelines to ensure students meet the learning objective.

Check that the student:

  1. can quickly and fluently add and subtract ten.
  2. can quickly and fluently add and subtract 100.

Variation Tips

  • These sheets can be used in isolation if you are working on adding ten and then progressing to adding 100.
  • For struggling students, the 10 Less and 10 More document could be worked on with a partner.

Background / Preparation

The teacher will need a copy (front and back) of 10 Less and 10 More document for each student.
