Overview

In this learning activity, students will watch a video about Google Assistant. In this video, students will witness artificial intelligence being used via Google Assistant to call a salon to book an appointment for a client. Students will then use an artificial intelligence-generated text-to-voice website to create an audio file of their own.

    Activity Details

This learning activity should be completed after an introductory lesson on artificial intelligence.

    1. The teacher will kick off this activity by asking students to list some of the ways they use artificial intelligence every day. Allow time to briefly discuss (5-10 minutes).
    2. The teacher will show the video Google Duplex: AI Assistant Calls Local Businesses to Make Appointments. Google Duplex is a technology powering a new Google Assistant feature. Billed as a completely automated system, Google Duplex can essentially make calls for you, but with a natural-sounding human voice instead of a robotic one.
    3. The teacher will partner students together with an internet-connected device and share the Streams Speak website. On this website, the students will create an AI-generated human voice clip using text-to-speech capabilities.  Their AI-generated voice clip will be used to answer the questions: (1) How would you define artificial intelligence? (2) What are some ways Google's AI technology can be used?
    4. The students will download their audio file from Streams Speak and email it to the teacher to share with the class.
    Assessment Strategies

    Assessment Strategies

The students will be assessed on completion of the AI-generated voice clip on Streams Speak and the correct response to the questions asked.

    Variation Tips
