Overview

This activity should be at the beginning of the lesson. The students will use Flipgrid.com to create videos introducing themselves to the class. This is a fun and quick activity allowing the students to learn to use a digital tool and to practice oral speaking skills.  This is a unique way for students to introduce themselves to their new class members.

This activity is created as a result of the ALEX Resource Development Summit.

Learning Objectives

Students will be able to produce, review, and revise a video introducing themselves to the classroom on Flipgrid in an effective manner.

Activity Details

This learning activity should be used at the beginning of the lesson and it is best used at the beginning of the year or semester. The teacher will create a Flipgrid class code on Flipgrid.com and the students will submit their videos in the class created. The students will create an account and select to record themselves through the site. In the video, the students will say their name, age, something interesting about themselves and their family. The video will be used as a way for students to introduce themselves to the class as well as practice oral speaking.

Assessment Strategies

The activity will be used as the assessment tool to determine whether or not the students mastered the standard.

Background / Preparation

The teacher will need to create an account in Flipgrid and demonstrate how Flipgrid works. You should create a video so the students can visually see what is supposed to take place in the assignment.
