Activity Details

Use the link to access PowerPoint lesson.

Slide 1 - Ask students what they know about the animals pictured. If you have an Interactive Board, write their answers under the animals.

Slide 2 - Ask them to tell you more about how each animal moves. If possible, write their answers under the animals.

Slide 3 - Discuss the use of tempo in music. Define the three tempos given. Have students identify the types of tempos at least three times by asking them questions or having them repeat after you.

Slide 4 - Ask students which animal might represent each tempo based on how fast or slow each animal moves. If possible, write the answers under the animals. Discuss other kinds of animals that could represent each tempo.

Pass out the Tempo Worksheet found here.

Ask students to choose their own animal to represent the given tempos, draw the animal in the box, and write why they chose that animal. Not all students are capable of reading the tempos, so read each tempo for them when going over the worksheet and have them repeat it back to you.

Assessment Strategies

Assess students by asking questions during the online presentation lesson.

Use worksheet to asses student knowledge of given tempos.

Variation Tips

Students can suggest things other than animals to represent the tempos (Police Car, tractor, Grandpa, athlete).

Background / Preparation

Projector and computer are needed to show the online presentation. Students will need pencils or crayons.
