Overview

Canva is a free graphic design tool where users can create cards, newsletters, flyers, brochures, business cards, and more. Canva projects can be printed or downloaded as a PDF document. Canva will be used to create a brochure for a Career Tech Parent Information Night. The brochure will be downloaded as a PDF document, printed, and uploaded to the class learning management system for the teacher to access and submitted to the students' digital portfolio. 

This activity was created as a result of the DLCS COS Resource Development Summit.

Learning Objectives

Students will use Canva to create a brochure to promote a Career Tech Academy for parent night.

Students will upload pictures and create content describing specific programs to Canva.

Students will download the completed brochure as a PDF and then upload the completed document to the class website.

Students will upload the completed brochure to their own digital portfolio in Google Sites or SeeSaw.

Activity Details

1. Students will use a graphic organizer to plan the layout and content to include in their brochure.

2. Students will share their graphic organizer plans with a partner, using the "share" option in Google Docs, to provide peer feedback using the comment feature in Google Docs. 

3. Students will edit brochure plans based on peer feedback.

4. Students will use the digital tool Canva to create their brochure.

5. Once brochures are complete, students will download their brochure as a PDF document, print the brochure, and upload the brochure using the class learning management system. Alternatively, students can email their completed brochure to the teacher.

6. Students will also upload the completed brochure into their digital portfolio (Google Sites, SeeSaw, etc.).

 

 

 

 

Assessment Strategies

The student will use a rubric which will be provided prior to beginning the activity for guidance in creating the brochure. The rubric will be used for final analysis of the completed brochure.

Variation Tips

Students may create other multimedia products to promote a sport, extracurricular activity, school organization, etc. Other multimedia products may be uploaded to the school or classroom website.

Background / Preparation

The teacher should provide graphic organizers to students for planning their brochure.  Teachers will provide rubrics for the project.
