    Students will define responsible and ethical in relation to research practices.

    Activity Details

    1. The teacher will share the content standard with students: Utilize responsible and ethical research practices to write clear, coherent products with a command of language suitable for a particular target audience and purpose. 
    2. The teacher will explain that before we can meet that standard, we must understand the words within it. 
    3. The teacher will tell the students that they will be unpacking the terms responsible and ethical in this activity. 
    4. The teacher will share the Padlet with students.
    5. The students will click the + under both terms. They will write their name for the “Subject” and add a word, definition, or example under “Write something beautiful…”
    6. Students may draw from their own experience or may search the internet for content to add. 
    7. Students will review the Padlet to see how other students have defined the two terms.
    Assessment Strategies

    Assessment Strategies

    The teacher will monitor students as they complete the Padlet response in step 7 to ascertain that they can define responsible and ethical in relation to research practices.

    Acceleration

    Accelerated students may use advanced features of the Padlet by adding links, pictures, sound recordings, or other content after clicking the + under each term.

    Intervention

    Students who need assistance may work with a partner or may add content to either responsible or ethical, but not both.

    Teacher Preparation: 

    The teacher should follow these steps to make a copy of the Padlet so that students have the ability to add remarks.  

    • Click on the link.
    • Drag the mouse over the icons on the right side of the screen. Click on “Remake This Padlet,” which is the rectangular icon with arrows on each side.  It is located beneath the arrow and above the bell.  
    • Click “Copy Posts” under “What to Copy”  “Copy Design” and “Copy Posts” should be marked with a yellow check. 
    • Click the Red “Submit” button in the upper right corner. 
    • Click the “Settings” gear icon on the right side of the page.  
    • Edit the title of the Padlet.
    • You may also wish to edit the “Posting” and “Content” permissions. 
    • Copy the URL at the bottom to share this with students.
