    Activity Details

    1. Students and teacher will walk freely around the classroom chanting "scramble, scramble, scramble" until the teacher holds up a number card.
    2. Teacher will shout out a number and hold up that number card.
    3. Students will arrange themselves into small groups based on the number card the teacher held up or shouted out.
    4. The students and teacher count and check each group to see if it contains the correct number of students.
    5. The group that does not contain the correct amount will discuss how many more they need in their group or how many they need to take out of their group in order to have the correct number.
    6. Play this several times using different numbers 0-10.
    7. Explain to the students that they have to create a different group of students each time.
    Assessment Strategies

    Assessment Strategies

    Check that the student:

    1. Recognizes the number on the card that the teacher holds up.
    2. Is able to find a group that contains the correct number of students.
    3. Is able to count the students in the group while saying the number.
    4. Says the number of students in each group.

    Variation Tips

Once the students have mastered playing "Scramble, Scramble" with number cards 0-10, play the game solving addition and subtraction equations.
