Body image refers to how people see themselves. Distorted body image (also called negative body image) refers to an unrealistic view of how someone sees their body.  Like eating disorders, it is seen most commonly in women, but many men also suffer from the disorder.

You begin forming your perceptions of your body’s attractiveness, health, acceptability, and functionality in early childhood.  This body image continues to form as you age and receive feedback from peers, family members, coaches, etc.

Personality traits such as perfectionism and self-criticism can also influence the development of a negative internalized image of your body.

Most coaches use dribbling and ball handling interchangeably. Though they are linked, the two skills are definitely separate.

Dribbling and controlling the ball is a skill that can be practiced alone and is separate from the other ball skills on the court. Ball handling, however, involves knowledge of the game and integrates dribbling, passing, and decision-making.

Practicing and improving your dribbling is a simple task. There are innumerable dribbling drills that are in use today that are challenging and effective. The set of drills that have come to be known as "Maravich Drills," (after the late ball-handling wizard Pete Maravich) are widely known. They include drills such as passing the ball around your body, dribble figure 8s, spider dribbling, drop and catch.

This resource provides information about improving these skills with various drills.

Students will demonstrate their knowledge of aerobic and anaerobic exercises by completing a two-question pre-test. After the pre-test, the teacher will discuss the answers provided by the students and the main differences between the two types. A graphic organizer such as a Venn Diagram or a T-chart could be used to accommodate visual learners. By the end of the introduction, the students should understand that aerobic exercise uses oxygen and increases the heart rate and anaerobic exercise doesn’t use oxygen and is high intensity, but that both types are important in how the heart performs and strengthens the body.

Students will refine their soccer skills by dribbling the soccer ball.  This lesson has three parts available.  First, students will dribble the soccer ball from one side of the gym to the other side of the gym while maintaining control of the ball.  Students will have several opportunities to dribble but they will also have time to watch their partners dribble by taking turns.  Second, using the same keywords and techniques as mentioned above students will attempt to dribble the ball with both feet while zigzagging through the cones. Last, following the plans from the first and second parts of this lesson, students will try to keep the ball away from their partner while also being very careful not to lose control of the ball or bump into any other soccer players.

In this fitness activity, players will have fun and get sweaty through a variety of exercises. Players must first choose a partner. 1 partner goes to an exercise to start while the other starts and the end line. On the “go” signal, half the players will be exercising for 45 seconds (or whatever time is chosen) while the other half is running back and forth from end line to end line. After 45 seconds yell “switch” and the partners switch roles. They will then cycle through the same format every 45 seconds until completing all 6 or 8 exercises. Take a break, get a drink of water, and go again!
